Microsoft has taken the wraps off Windows 12, marking a fundamental shift in how the operating system is built. Dubbed 'CoreOS', the underlying architecture has been completely modularized. This means Windows 12 can strip itself down to run efficiently on low-power IoT devices, or scale up to fully utilize massive workstation rigs, all using the same core code base.
One of the most significant changes is the aggressive sandboxing of legacy Win32 applications. To ensure system stability and security, older applications will now run in an isolated, highly optimized virtualized container. This prevents rogue software from affecting system performance or causing catastrophic crashes.
The user interface has also received a major polish, with a floating taskbar, deeper integration of cloud storage directly into the file system, and native support for running Android apps seamlessly alongside traditional Windows software.
